TP980 Probe Accuracy Check Follow
If you suspect that your TP980 probes are reading off by a few degrees we recommend a few ways to check if your probes are giving you inaccurate readings:
- Room temperature test: While the probe isn't inserted into anything and is sitting at room temperature, the temperature reading should be close to what your home thermostat displays.
- Boiling Water Test: Boil a pot of water and make sure it is a rigorous rolling boil and then insert the probe into the water. Avoid touching the bottom or sides for the most accurate reading. The reading should be100°C (212°F) at sea level.
- Ice Water Test: Fill a cup full of ice and add cold water. Let it sit for a minute and then stir for about 15 seconds. Insert the thermometer probe 2" into the center of the ice bath and stir gently for another 15 seconds, keeping the stem surrounded by the ice cubes and moving constantly. An accurate thermometer will read 32 F.
