Probe Accuracy Check

If you suspect that your probe is reading inaccurately. We recommend a few ways to check if your thermometer is giving you inaccurate readings:

- Room temperature test: While the probe isn't inserted into anything and is sitting at room temperature, would you consider that reading to be close to accurate based on your home thermostat?

Note: Keep in-mind handling the probe and being in close proximity to it may 
give you a temperature that's a few degrees, but not many, higher than the 
actual temperature. 

For a more precise assessment of your probes accuracy try the following:

- Boiling water test: Get a pot of water to a rolling boil. Without removing the pot from heat, use the tip of the probe to test the temperature of the water (Try to keep the probe from making contact with the pot). You should be getting a temperature that is within a degree or 2 from 212 F (100 C).

Note: The reading for boiling point decreases with elevation. An increase 
of 500 ft. will cause a decrease of roughly 0.9 F. For example, if you 
live at 4000 ft. elevation, your boiling point will be around 205 F (96 C).
